About Winter

I’m a Christian author determined to break into a market that’s tough as nails to enter. I married my Alpha Male hero, a soldier and a man deeply rooted in the rich farming soil of the Midwest. My husband is a National Guardsman, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 15 years under his belt. Together we had four copies of ourselves, twin sons, a cowgirl in training, and another son who is my hero’s Mini-Me.

At the age of 10 I discovered a talent for composing stories, and a passion was born. I’ve written anything from fantasies, westerns, historicals, fan-fiction, mysteries, suspense, and romance. My current projects lean heavily on my mid-western roots, my love of the Old West, the rodeo, and the military. Along with my own blog Rodeo with a Twist of Suspense; I contribute a monthly column called She Wears Combat Boots Too at Take Root and Write.

My life is anything but normal. I’m more than just a wife and a mother, a writer and daughter of God. I’m a military wife. A woman shouldering two lives. On one side, I do the domestic woman thing. And the other side … that’s the military side. A side that copes with deployments, the language and secrecy of the military, and the heartache of war. The life of a military wife is meant for only a few. This isn’t about esteem. It’s about blood, sweat, and a lot of shed tears.

In February of 2010, you can read the  story of my life during my husband’s deployment in ’06-’07 in the book GOD Strong:A Spiritual Survival Guide for Military Wives, by Sara Horn (Zondervan). Look for it where ever books are sold, or you can order it at Amazon.com.

In August of 2008, I joined Christian Women Take Root to write a bimonthly column on being a military wife called She Wears Combat Boots Too at the CWTR blog Take Root and Write. Update: my column has now gone monthly due to time constraints with my own writing and work at getting published.

In October of 2007, I signed with Mary Sue Seymour of the Seymour Agency. Currently, my first book, Five-Second Penalty, is gracing editors’ desks across the country. I’m in the midst of finishing the rough draft of the second book in the four book series, Broken Barrier.

In September of 2007, my husband returned from his first tour in Iraq. God blessed us greatly during this time of separation. I’m just glad to have him back. Please remember to pray for our troops over in harms way. They are fighting in a war and paying the ultimate price while many in this country refuse to understand and support.
