If Wishes Were Horses

I’d own a 5oo hundred acre ranch.

About now, you’re wo889286ndering where I’m going with this. I’m thinking the same thing too, and I’m the one writing it.

One of my CP’s and I were lamenting the other day about how frustrating it was to get a solid contract in the publishing world these days. Both of us have agents, both of us are decent writers who have improved and will continue to do so as we go, and both of us have had too many doors slammed in our faces to count. This tanking economy (don’t believe everything they tell you on TV either) has reached it’s devastating fingers into the publishing houses. Lay offs and getting picky over what new authors to contract have made it more difficult than ever to get published. Granted, not all the houses are feeling the strain, but the majority of them are.

Add to that jobs still being cut and people not finding anything new to replace them. It’s makes for some worrisome and troubling minds. Mine and my CP’s included. While I don’t have the fear of Dh losing his job, he works for the government, I do have an issue with finding something for myself that I’m qualified to do, as well as enabling me to still do what I do–Wife, Mom, Writer.

If wishes were horses.

But there’s something bigger going on here. And sometimes I need that reminder, and I’ll remind y’all. God has it under control. I know a lot of us are angry and frustrated with the current administration in office at the White House. Guess what, God’s bigger than that. Best thing you can do, is pray, and not pray for failure. Pray for guidance, and peace, and sound judgment. There’s been enough stupidity going on lately, don’t be stupid too. Some of you are freaking out over this H1N1 Influenza A (notice, I’m not calling it the other way–my father is a pig farmer, like I’m going to label this stupid thing wrong.) Stop it! BTW, you can’t get it from the meat, it’s a virus people, it has to have a LIVE host! And no one has contacted it from the animals either, this baby is hopping from person to person. (Yet, we’re still not getting all the information and that’s even more infuriating. Good way to spread the panic, eh?)

Hey, recall that verse from Jesus: wars and rumors of wars, famine and sickness, natural disasters, and not-so-natural. It’s all there, people, in the Bible. We were warned and history has shown that it’s never changed. Our worries and cares shouldn’t be on our shoulders. There’s not a thing we can do about it.

God can, and He does. I’m still getting a handle on this whole, letting Him be in full control. I do have to say though, it sure is nice not having to wish this, or wish that. All I say, is: “God, nothing I can do about this, so, here it is. Have at it.” Course, that’s after I’ve forgotten and tried to fix it on my own. Which is realized a lot sooner than in years past.

I’m not worried about my family getting sick. I’m not worried about job placement. I’ve stopping worrying over when I’ll get that publishing contact. Because it’s never added one day to my life.

I’m cautious, praying, sitting back and waiting. I’m not big enough to handle this.

God is!

I actually had my first sub job on Monday, which was the highest level of worry at our local high school. It was interesting to hear the various comments from students, some very racist and some full of wisdom.

Yes, God is in control. We do not have to worry about anything as long as we put our trust in Him. He will see us through anything.Blessings
